Cannabis Corpse started their cannabis induced death metal in 2006. Not sure whether they take themselves serious, or if they are out to just “blaze” a trail of death metal mockery. But Cannabis Corpse have returned in 2011 with their third album “Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise”.
As expected the track listing is a cannabis take on traditional death metal songs in a Cannibal Corpse style. I’d like to think that Cannibal Corpse would approve of their cannabis tribute band.
The album is full of all the requirements for classic death metal. Insane guitar riffs, check, pounding snare & double bass, check, growling vocal styling, check and album artwork of horrific nature. All of which meets the requirements of a death metal album.
Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise has what it takes to be another death metal classic among the cannabis using death metal community. Sure they seem to only hit two certain demographics, but they do it with pride. Staying true to the death metal sound, they torch through 12 songs of metal madness.
If you’re a death metal fan, you will be pleased with this latest release from Cannabis Corpse. If you’re a casual listener you’ll probably not listen to this album more than a few times.
So sit back, roll one up and toke up a few new tunes from Cannabis Corpse.
