Backroads With Phyllis News: Hip In Detroit Celebrates One Year Of Being Sassy

Backroads With Phyllis NewsOur friends over at Hip In Detroit are celebrating the one year anniversary of interweb existence by throwing themselves a huge birthday party this Friday at Small’s Bar in Hamtramck. They have enlisted some of their favorite local bands such as Destroy This Place, The A-Gang, Break Anchor and Against the Grain to blow the doors off one of our favorite venues and kick off the Superbowl weekend.

We have had the pleasure of watching the three women that make up Hip In Detroit work their little hearts out to become one of Metro Detroit’s go-to blogs for Michigan music of all genres. In the 12 months of being Hip, Sadie Quagliotto, Christie Laabs & Becca Friedman have revealed that they share a refreshingly positive attitude and intense pride when it comes to their beloved hometown and the music that is bred here. Each coming from a unique background in promotions, journalism, videography and photography, they have made it their mission to ensure no one is left out when there is a party to be had.

With Detroit trying desperately to escape from under the desolate shadow the rest of the country has cast on us, Hip knows how important it is to celebrate all of the wonderful things our city has to offer while raising our “D” flags and middle fingers in the air.

“We are just hoping people come out and show Detroit, and the rest of the world, that we can still come together as a community and support each other. Hip In Detroit is about uniting our art and music scene and bringing people together. Friday night is our chance to do just that,” says Quagliotto.

Hip wants to make sure everyone goes home with some birthday SWAG Friday night, and with sponsors like Black Iris Booking, Pabst Blue Ribbon Detroit, Ironclad Tattoo Co. of Troy and Incognito Boutique of Royal Oak, we doubt that will be a problem. We urge everyone to come out to Small’s this Friday night, not only to see a great show, but to celebrate everything Detroit has to offer and be a part of a growing movement of camaraderie in Michigan.
