Holding back from reviewing this album for a few weeks I had high hopes of this recent CKY effort growing on me with every listen. As I still try to indulge myself with every time I play this I still can’t manage to feel a vibe that I so hoped would rock my ass.
What we have here is an album that plays awkwardly like the Foo Fighters on heavy downers.Waiting for the time where I would suddenly see what all the fuss is about I never even muster a slight enjoyment of the album to say the least. Many have adapted the stoner rock tag to this effort but this isn’t even close to the excitement generated from my every listen. Just when songs start to catch the listeners interest CKY drag out every cut to lengths unbearable to make it thru at every attempt. With their mono tone style and catchy hooks I really expected much more. There are some sweet guitar tones and they do kinda capture a pretty cool groove at times it just seems the songs are just a tad to long.
This isn’t all bad; CKY can seriously throw down live as where I believe these tunes truly shine but this latest effort as an album just seems a little stale for my liking.
