The
Snocore Rock Tour hit the State Theater in Detroit for
the 2nd year in a row. Bringing its eclectic mix of
rock and snowboarding in tow. The show got off to an
unexpected early start with the local group Rescue.
They played a good set, and it was interesting to hear
them before they go work with Ross Robinson on their
new album. After a quick set change, Dredg took the
stage, again a bit earlier than scheduled. These guys
put on an excellent set. The crowd seemed to enjoy their
mellow vibe and they played a good mix of songs from
both El Cielo and Leitmotif. The sound was absolutely
amazing for their set, and they really put their all
into the performance. Unfortunately, because they took
the stage so early, the venue was actually still pretty
empty.
Picking
up where Dredg left off, Hot Water Music played their
unique flavor of punk rock to the growing crowd. As
they were wrapping up the floor really began to fill
in for Glassjaw. When they hit the stage the floor became
a churning mass of energy. They played mainly tracks
from Worship and Tribute, but threw in a few crowd pleasers
from their freshman release. At times, the crowd was
singing so loud, it was hard to hear Daryl's vocals
over the masses. Glassjaw's set was definitely the highlight
of the evening, they can be pretty hit and miss at times,
and they definitely hit the mark tonight. They ended
their set with Convectuoso, and the saturated guitar
sound reverberated off the walls of the State Theater
in a way I've never heard before. Sparta would have
a hard act to follow, but they definitely held their
own. While maybe not as hard some of the bands who played
before them, Sparta still kept the crowd alive and moving
while they played nearly every track off their album.
As Sparta left the stage and the house lights came up,
I couldn't help but think this was one of the better
line-ups the tour has had in quite a while.
