| It’s
been about a year since Green Day graced Detroit with
their pleasure. This time they arrived with punk-pop counterpart
Blink 182 for MTVs Pop Disaster Tour and blew away the
nearly sold-out crowd at the Palace of Auburn Hills. This
tour was backing their latest album, “International Superhits!”,
the bands first greatest-hits album. And their set was
nothing short of superhits, coving all the bases of their
radio hits. Songs like “When I Come Around”, “Welcome
to Paradise”, and “Minority” were sung almost religiously
by the fans clinging on every word Billie Joe uttered.
They then go as far back to the Operation Ivy days and
playing “Knowledge” (this is where Billie Joe picked folks
out of the audience to cover the song.) Green Day was
so energetic and the crowd’s response was so intense,
that you had to wonder if everyone was going to have enough
energy to dance along with Blink. With the explosions,
drunk ducks, water guns, and all the other antics you
would expect form a Green Day show, 75 minutes seemed
too short for the rush of a knock-you-on-your-ass-and-get-back-up-to-do-it-again
concert. |
